Ski Arpa

Cat Ski in the Andes

{0 Comments}

Three-hours drive from the Chilean capital of Santiago is a ski resort without any shops, malls, or promenades. There are no restaurants, bars or hotels either. There’s not even a ski lift. Yet it still attracts clients from around the world, and for good reason. Ski Arpa is the dream of a lifelong ski instructor who scrapped and saved over three decades to open a mountain for anyone in love with stunning views, and untracked snow. Here, two Pisten Bully Snowcats shepherd up to 22 skiers to the top of the mountain, where they have mind-boggling access to 4000 acres of skiable terrain.

Getting There :
Ski Arpa is located near the village of Los Andes, 108km from Chile’s capital city Santiago, about a three hour drive. Upscape Adventures provide hotel pick-up and guide service. If you drive, a 4 X 4 vehicle is essential. Reasonably priced gear rental is available through Santiago’s KL Adventures en-route.

Note from Robin :
Check the Ski Arpa website for current snow and road conditions, as poor weather can cancel operations. All equipment must be rented, including an avalanche beacon, shovel and probe. Bring your own lunch and water. The cat ride from the Refugio to the top takes approximately 20 minutes. Each run lasts approximately 20-30 minutes. In total with loading and unloading each run takes approximately 1hour.
